    Korg EX8000 and DW8000 Synthesizers

    Korg DW-8000 EX-8000 -

Korg built this a the perfect time - it has the programming sofistcation of a synth that was built after MIDI was in full swing, but it's early enough to have a certain amount of analogue circuitry. The EX-8000 (which is the model I have) is identical to the DW-8000 except that it is a rack mount version with no keyboard.

It is an 8 voice synth that opperates on one MIDI channel. It has 16 available waveforms, and a six step envelope generator for both amplitude and filter. It has the usual filter/resonance setup for timber, and is so easy to program that you hardly need more help than the diagram that is stencelled on to the faceplate of the unit. Anyway, here's some stuff that might be of help.

To write a patch, strike the red "write" button (display should start blinking). Enter the number of the patch you want to write to (display should stop blinking). [make sure the write protect switch is turned to "enable" - duh]

The Korg EX 8000 has an octal patch systme. For anyone with an octal patch system, here's a chart that transfers patch numbers between the synth and the sequencer (in this case Performer, which starts the first patch with a Zero) -

    perf: korg: perf: korg: perf: korg: 0 - 11 1 - 12 25 - 42 49 - 72 2 - 13 26 - 43 50 - 73 3 - 14 27 - 44 51 - 74 4 - 15 28 - 45 52 - 75 5 - 16 29 - 46 53 - 76 6 - 17 30 - 47 54 - 77 7 - 18 31 - 48 55 - 78 8 - 21 32 - 51 56 - 81 9 - 22 33 - 52 57 - 82 10 - 23 34 - 53 58 - 83 11 - 24 35 - 54 59 - 84 12 - 25 36 - 55 60 - 85 13 - 26 37 - 56 61 - 86 14 - 27 38 - 57 62 - 87 15 - 28 39 - 58 63 - 88 16 - 31 40 - 61 17 - 32 41 - 62 18 - 33 42 - 63 19 - 34 43 - 64 20 - 35 44 - 65 21 - 36 45 - 66 22 - 37 46 - 67 23 - 38 47 - 68 24 - 41 48 - 71
